Love in a dangerous time ...
Dumped into a platoon of UN peacekeeping soldiers embroiled in a hot conflict, American Lieutenant Robert J. Shane Kennedy is an outstanding author. I purchased Flowers for the Girl after hearing my sister rave about it and it is everything she said and more. It is called a Novella but with 15 chapters, it's more of a short novel than a long short story (does that make sense?) And when you read it, the story has a sense of urgency, especially when Dix and the rest of the men of the Lord Kirk's Horse (Loyal Canadians) Regiment are in the middle of the action.This story has the feel of a historical novel but with far better action and more realistic dialog than most historical fictions. The key is learning how and why Dix and his men were almost killed over a little girl. A special little girl. Oh, it is SO tempting to reveal more but I never want spoilers myself.
Let me end this review by stating that this writer sounds like a SEASONED AUTHOR. He is working on a full-length novel and if he keeps his dialog, action, and pacing as well as he did here in Flowers for the Girl, it's going to be a smash bestseller.

Flowers for the Girl edition by Shane Kennedy Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This is a well written story following soldiers on a UN peace keeping mission. The main character is a lieutenant, Dix, who finds a little girl and returns her to her mother. I highly recommend this adventure tale.
I must admit I was anxious for this book to debut after reading Shanes previous book "Highbinders". This is a well written book depicting a group of UN peackeepers, headed up by Dix, Braun, Quid, Lee, and of course the special little girl that brings them all together and ultimately decides their fate. I found it to be a touching novel of 15 chapters bringing together war, love, death. The author reaches deep into the minds of the charachters, and brings this book to life! I give this my 5 star recommendation!
It wasn't until I had finished this story and was running it back in my mind that I realized how multi-layered it is. I see a story within a story within a story, and the layers are limited only by the imagination of the person reading it.
I have given "Flowers for the Girl" 5 stars, in spite of the ending - or maybe because of it.
